2008 Season
Tenor and Piano
Tom Doherty, Tenor
Marney Curran, Piano
Sunday, July 20
There’s nothing like singing outside. The tenor voice is accompanied by piano and singing birds. The swaying of the leaved trees adds its rhythm to the moment. One is left with thanksgiving. Romantic ballads, old and new – that’s the menu – along with some great food.
A few years back, Tom took the time to study vocal music, and went to Graz, Austria and Montreal, Canada. In the United States, Tom had the opportunity to participate in the young artist programs of the Tanglewood Music Festival in Lennox Massachusetts, the Pittsburgh Opera Company, the Indianapolis Opera Company and Opera North in Vermont. These days he enjoys singing and appreciates the warm response of those who listen.
Marney holds a Bachelor of Sacred Music degree from Ontario
Bible College, now known as Tyndale University, and her Associateship
in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
Marney is well known as a vocal accompaniment specialist. She prepares
and performs with soloists for voice examinations, festival entries and
recitals. Marney also teaches private piano, music theory, sight singing
and ear training in preparation for the requirements of exams with the
Royal Conservatory of Music. In addition, she is the Church Musician at
Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Newmarket, and the accompanist for the choirs
of The Country Day School in King.
